With a history dating back to 1322, Down Hall Hotel & Spa has long been established as one of England’s great country houses. Set in an area of outstanding beauty, this impressive historic mansion features grand interiors with ornate ceilings and chandeliers, landscaped gardens and spectacular views of the countryside.

Our 110-acre estate, situated on the Hertfordshire/Essex border, is just 9 miles from Stansted Airport, 40 minutes from central London by train and is in close proximity to both the M11 and M25.

Our seasonally changing Garden room menu and The Fox bar and lounge menu has guests returning time and time again. Our luxury Eden Spa is a tranquil escape from day to day life where you can relax the mind, revive the body and soothe the soul

Down Hall Hotel & Spa has thirteen private dining & meeting spaces in total, ranging from intimate boardroom to larger function spaces. With the option to choose between the ornate historic function rooms within the Main House, or the West Wing’s newly refurbished contemporary meeting space, Down Hall offers something for every occasion.

Our 98 bedrooms are all individually designed and reflect the grandeur, elegance and character of this historic property. The Classic and Executive bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, whilst our Feature rooms enjoy stunning views across the landscaped gardens.

Since 2018, Venues All Areas & The Events Architect have organised our events, each for between 300 and 500 staff. Quite simply, they have all been a phenomenal success. Our Summer Party now runs over three days, involving everything from marquees, refined catering, smart sleeping tents, bands, and a myriad of other activities (even ice cream vans!). Our Christmas Party is traditional black tie, which they somehow also make special and out of the ordinary. They challenge themselves to go above and beyond, and they SUCCEED, whilst keeping within the all-important budget!
